After the success of the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra R, SVT and its engineers stARTed planning for a more powerful Cobra R competition package based on the SN95 platform. Only 250 vehicles were built, with the 95 edition varying greatly from its predecessor. Requests for a larger engine were granted, with the 95 offering a 5.8L V-8. Another racing modification made was for more fuel capacity, as a 20 gallon Fuel-Safe™ fuel cell was included. Heavy-duty progressive-rate springs improved suspension, thicker stabilizer bars were added, and a front strut tower brace was also included to enhance structural rigidity. To handle the torque of the more powerful engine, a Tremec™ five-speed manual transmission was installed. External changes included the installation of a hood tall enough to clear the engine and induction system. Also, the fog lights were omitted, replaced by ducts to channel cool air to the front brakes.
Their were only 250 Cobra Rs made in 1995 & the only color you could get the R in was ARTic white.

The Cobra R features a 5.8L (351ci) V8.
The 5.8 is packing 300 Hp @4800 RPM & 365 lbs-ft. @3740 RPM.
The Cobra R was the only Mustang to recieve the 351 since the muscle car age.

The 351 gave the Cobra the venom it needed to take on and defeat the LT1 Camaros that had ruled the street scene since 1993.
By the end of 1995, many street racers had already found the limits of their Cobras. They began extending the limits by bolting on aftermarket power adders such as bigger throttle bodies, fuel injectors, intakes, camshafts, headers, exhaust, superchargers, nitrous, ........ and so on.
With simple mods, the Cobras could easily run 12s in the 1/4 mile.
